Visit to The Fashion Museum, Bath

I’ve just returned from a fascinating research trip to The Fashion Museum, Bath funded by the Craft Pottery Charitable Trust, as part of the research for my next project; ‘Hand to Hand’ (for more information please see the ‘Projects’ page.

I was able to study, sketch and photograph selected 17th century embroidered gloves from the museum’s vast costume archives of 80,000 items!   The gloves were little ‘works of art’ and absolutely wonderful to see at close hand.

The trip has already inspired some new ideas to experiment with for surface decoration. Here are a few of the gloves I was able to study:

Single cream leather glove with embroidered tabbed gauntlet - Pelican in her piety (1610-1630)
